The Idiot Screens

The Idiot Screens

Screen is the essential part of the daily routine we have be it at work, at home, on the move.

Today most of us have multiple screens to look at during our work, entertainment and infotainment.

Our eyes are looking at the screens for an average 8 to 9 hours on the daily basis throughout the week days and might be just half in case of weekends. This make more or less 50 hours of looking at the screens in a week.

This number increases by another couple of hours if we have our god of cricket at stumps but don’t mind those increased hours as we are the fortunate ones in the history of mankind to see him live.

Each day new gadgets are hitting the market with lot of latest features but at the end these are going to just increase our eyes on screen time. Adding to it are the new attractive apps, games for the smallest screen (mobile) in our life.

From last few years the experts are talking about our work life balance, family, health etc. the time they would start talking about this bigger issue of eyes on screen time and the corporate would have the sessions on "Screen Life Balance". That would be the time from which our beloved screens would be classified as idiot screens. Same as we have successfully classified the Televisions as the Idiot Boxes.

We might assume that watching any screen with our beloved ones can improve our work life balance as it is a part of family time and very much with the family but we would be completely off the track in assuming so.

To make it short this blog is not intended to directly or indirectly increase eyes on the screen time for you as well as for me. Not sure about you but I definitely need more hours of eyes off the screen now to balance it out.

Staying Connected

Staying Connected

There was an era of lesser distant communication among the social circle and the short messages (one to one Communication) were sent through the postal offices and they were the telegraphs.

The current teen would not have seen any telegraphs and might not be able to visualize the excitement people had on receiving the telegraphs.

Those were the times when one needs to take a time out of its not so busy schedule for getting the information of their social, family circles.

Then came the telephones and the faxes, which were further replaced by the current generation of communication i.e. the Mobiles and emails.

And in today's busy schedule of society and all are always on the run getting the time to connect with the social circles is not that easy. The limitation with the Mobiles or the emails is that one has to frequently keep updating the phonebook or the contact list ensuring that no one from the circle is left behind. The requirement of getting connected and knowing who is upto what !!!  was not so easy even through emails.

To address the limitations the inventors got into the action and got us what we needed the most "Social Networking Platform" and which give us all the required information about our Social Circles. And here we are in the era of Networking Platforms be it a social or professional networking, its just a click away or rather just few clicks. All we need is to remember our login details and keep posting.

Few are of the opinion that these platform have addicted the generation to a screen be it a pc, tablet or mobile, and this is very valid issue as addiction may lead to complication in health and life. So to overcome this the generation needs to learn to use these platforms to its benefits.

Is that what we needed to stay connected or still it has some limitations which would lead us to the invention of new app / technology.
